Shahbandar Palace

Al Shahbandar Palace Hotel, like most houses in the Old City of Damascus, originally lacked many of the basic services. Located in Bab Touma, the Christian quarter of the Old City, and reached via the ancient alleys of Damascus, this pink coloured hotel has painstakingly been restored to its former glory.

The house is set around a traditional Damascene central courtyard with citrus/orange trees and a fountain. It includes eight bedrooms (two singles, two doubles and four suites), with a courtyard, terraces and private patios. It also features an Old Bayke (stable), converted into a gallery, restaurant and café.

The hotel dates back to the 17^th century and boasts original features from the 18^th century, together with a mid-16^th century archway. The hotel is unstinting in its style and blends tradition with luxury. Each room is exotically arrayed and decorated in traditional Syrian style using local products. Brocade is used for the curtains and the beds are fitted with Damascene quilts. Bathrooms are fitted with handmade and painted tiles and drawings.

Al Shahbandar Palace Hotel is tucked away in a small, narrow, cobbled street, and the only way to recognise the hotel is by its salmon pink walls and heavy wooden door.

The restaurant and café specialises in varied dishes and drinks, along with a range of hobble bubble flavours.

Linked to this hotel is an exquisite Arabian styled spa (Turkish Hammam) called Al Bakri Hammam that is 300 years old.
